Michael Lee Crowns

Madison - Michael “Mike” Crowns, age 69, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2022. He was born on Feb. 12, 1953, in Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., the son of Byron Crowns and Gail (Lee) Crowns.

Mike graduated from UW-Madison with honors in Math and Computer Science. He married Julie Kumba Crowns on April 6, 1990. He enjoyed a career as a director for Concept Publishing in Beaver Dam, developing software for the publishing industry. Later, he took great pride in and had a strong influence on the video games he produced throughout the years. Mike was very intelligent, caring, helpful and patient, and could do anything he put his mind to. He was not only knowledgeable about science, math, finances and stocks, he was also great at fixing things!

In his free time, Mike loved to travel, go sailing, bake cakes, put together ship models and spend time with his dogs. He loved to teach, and he invested great interest in everyone he met. He was a social person with a willingness to help anyone in need. In addition, he had a quick wit and was great at puns and loved riddles. He enjoyed programming and tabletop games and was an avid reader. Spending time with his family brought him great joy, and had a knack for being a peacemaker.

Mike is survived by his wife, Julie; daughters, Mariah Crowns and Catherine (Thomas Wiza) Crowns; son, Jacob Crowns; grandchildren, Madaline Derke, Siera Derke and Byron Derke; sister, Sue Hamm; brother, David (Laura) Crowns; and mother-in-law, Dorothy Kumba. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg, at 1 p.m. on Sunday, May 29, 2022.
