Obituary
MONTICELLO - Dennis Lee Unterholzner, age 77, of Monticello, went home to heaven on Sunday, May 29, 2022. He was born on Dec. 5, 1944, in Milwaukee, the son of Charles and Margharita (Crucius) Unterholzner. He married Mary Margaret Victory on Aug. 16, 1975, in Wauwatosa, Wis. Dennis placed all his hope of life, even after death, in Jesus Christ, the Son of God. "I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life." John 5:24.
Dennis earned his M.S. in History and M.A. in Library Science from UW-Milwaukee. He proudly worked as an academic librarian at Carthage College, retiring on Dec. 31, 2009. He loved working outdoors, planting flowers, and designing landscape. He was a devoted father and grandfather. An avid reader, Dennis loved studying and teaching history. He enjoyed travel and fine wine. His true passion was serving his Lord witnessed by his involvement in church. He was a long-time member at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Waukesha, Wis., and most recently at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Middleton. Over the years he served as usher, elder, lay reader, Sunday school teacher, bible study leader, congregational president, church administrator and on numerous committees and councils.
Dennis is survived by his devoted wife, Mary, of 46 years; daughters, Rebecca (Rocky) Matthews and Theresa (Bruce) Flynn; grandchildren, Rhiana Matthews and Miles, Tucker and Maisie Flynn; and other dear family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Warren Unterholzner.
Services will be held at ST. ANDREW LUTHERAN CHURCH, 6815 Schneider Road, Middleton, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, 2022, with Pastor Randy Hunter and Pastor Michael Turriff officiating. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday. All are welcome to stay for fellowship and a meal.
