Obituary

FITCHBURG- On May 17, 2025, Bob Johnson peacefully passed away at the age of 73 surrounded by family in the Fitchburg home in which he grew up. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Florence; as well as two brothers, Jerry and Jim. He is survived by his eldest brother, Rodney; and his children, Teagen and Erik, and their spouses, Ben and Michael.

Bob, or Bobby to his childhood friends and family, was devoted to his family and work with a handyman and do it yourself spirit. Shortly after graduating from Oregon High School, he enlisted in the U.S Army and was stationed in South Korea where he had the honors of giving Miss America a tour of the base. After ending his service, he trained as a maintenance mechanic and worked with UW Hospital for over 30 years and was honored for his actions during a major flood in the hospital. He also enjoyed his work with Electric Motors Unlimited, continuing to help out around the shop after he retired from UW Hospital.

Beyond work life, he loved being outdoors camping, canoeing, skiing, and biking-completing the 500-mile Great Annual Bike Ride Along the Wisconsin River multiple times with his daughter. In his later years, he especially connected with the tranquility of the rolling hills and streams of the Driftless Area with his son and extended family.

Bob I swear you had nine lives. I have never met a man with so much bad luck yet he persevered and always managed to get through it. We may not have always seen eye to eye but I respected your tenacity and forever positive outlook on life. Rest in peace my friend Steve Bollig
