Laurie M. Sand

LODI - Laurie M. Sand, age 54, peacefully passed away surrounded by her loved ones on Friday, May 13, 2022, after 12 + year battle with breast cancer.

She was born on September 24, 1967, in Denver, Colorado, the daughter of the late John Sand and Barbara (Juhasz) Bast.

Laurie and her son (Alex) who she welcomed into the world on November 28, 1984, took on the world together from the start. Laurie absolutely adored and cherished the relationship with her one and only child. He was the light of her life and when she had her first grandchild (Sabastian) we knew the love she had for her boys would live on forever. The three of them had endless adventures which forged an unbreakable bond.

Laurie met the "love of her life", Bill Kjorlie and became "soul mates" for over 22 years. June 3rd will be the 23rd anniversary of their life together.  

She owned and operated her own drywall business - Prizm Drywall and did work for many area contractors.

Laurie enjoyed the wilderness and “roughing it” in the national forests, Rocky Mountains and exploring the mountain ranges out west.  She and Bill loved to experience the outdoors, hunting, fishing and foraging the local forests for morel mushrooms. Laurie also enjoyed gardening, making crafts and crocheting, but loved most having time with her family and grandkids. Laurie was a one-of-a-kind woman, mother and grandmother! Laurie’s love for animals allowed her to foster injured animals, care for her chickens and spoil her dogs, Katie, Snoopy and Dobbie.

Laurie and Bill had very strong faith and even though she couldn't attend church later on in her battle with the cancer she had found her peace with God.

In addition to Bill, Laurie is also survived by her son, Alex (Annie) Soumphonphakdy and their children, Sabastian and twins, Sophia and Olivia (who gave Laurie the ultimate gift of being born on her birthday); her siblings, Larry Egleston, Linda (Robert Richards) Egleston, Tammy Stiemke and Gary Sand; Athena, Amanda, and Aliesha Kjorlie (whom Laurie help raise as her own) and other relatives along with many friends.

A gathering celebrating Laurie's life will be held on Saturday, June 18, 2022, starting at 12 noon at KD's Bar and Grill, N1434 Fair St, Lodi, WI.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to her family to help cover Laurie’s final expenses and for donations to UW Carbone Cancer Clinic.

Laurie truly enjoyed life and enlightened the lives of those she touched. She would want everyone to be comfortable and dress casual.
