Patricia Lou Flom

Mount Horeb - Patricia Lou (Kruckman) Flom, born Oct. 23, 1941, has passed on May 13, 2022. She was born to James P. and Dorothy J. (Hugunin) Kruckman. Pat grew up in Burlington, Wis., until 1953 when the family moved to Mount Horeb, Wis. She attended the Mount Horeb School District. During her junior and senior years, she took courses through MATC in Madison as well as beginning an office career at Banker’s Life Insurance Company in Madison. She then graduated from Mount Horeb High School. Her education continued at MATC in the field of business.  

On Sept. 5, 1959, she married David L. Flom. Together they were blessed with three beautiful children. Pat’s life was a busy one. At age 10, she began babysitting and doing so until 1968. During that time, she also took in children who had siblings in the UW Cancer Center. This was while working part-time until all of her children were in school. Her career continued at the State of Wisconsin in the Social Services Department and later moved to the Wisconsin Motor Vehicle Department. Nights and weekends she worked at LaMode’s Dress Apparel in Mount Horeb.

As the children grew, she was a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church along with her involvement in teaching Sunday School, being a Brownie Scout Leader, a Cub Scout Leader, a Blue Mounds Busy Mites 4-H Club Leader, a Youth T-ball/Softball Coach for the girls’ teams, and a volunteer Reading Teacher (2nd grade) for 16 years in the Mount Horeb School District. Later in life she also volunteered at Ingleside Nursing Home (21 years), at the Mount Horeb Senior Center and Food Pantry. She was a member of the Driftless Historium of Mount Horeb, friend of the Mount Horeb Library, a supporter of PBS (Channel 21), and very involved at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Mesa, Ariz. Every Sunday she participated in giving communion, read scriptures during services, opened and closed the gift store, and was involved in daily Bible Study. She was a strong woman with her Christian faith. But most of all, she loved her family and many good friends, as well as her friends in Germany and France. Patricia loved people, being involved in the church, crafting, painting, learning new things, all things nature and wildlife, especially birdwatching, traveling, playing cards and boating at the summer cabin in Prairie du Chien, and spending their winters at their home in Mesa. Most of all, she enjoyed gardening, watching things grow, and her plants and flowers all around her beautiful homes. Patricia was a wonderful wife, mother, grandparent, great-grandparent, and friend. She was a kind soul, very considerate of others, and loved life.

Pat leaves behind David, her husband of almost 63 years; their children, Sandra M. Flom, Randy W. Flom (deceased), and Cindy (Jim) Jackson; their grandchildren, Amanda (Tom) Pauli, David (Danielle) Haag and Jacob Jackson; and great-grandchildren, Everett Haag (deceased), Taya Haag, and Ryella Pauli. Also a special son, Bryan Greve; an American mother to Nadine Kunz of Germany; brothers, Laurence (Carolyn) Kruckman and James (Marie) Kruckman; sister-in-law, Dani Sue Schroeder; and many cousins, nephews, and nieces.  

Now, she has gone home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  

A visitation will be held at Evangelical Lutheran Church, 315 E. Main St., Mount Horeb, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2022. The funeral service will be held at the church at 1 p.m. on Saturday, followed by burial at Union Cemetery, Mount Horeb.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, UW Children’s Hospital, PBS programming or a scholarship for business students. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
