Obituary

OREGON - Gary J. Champagne died on Monday, May 9, 2022. He was born on July 28, 1938, in Brooks, Minn.

Gary married Sandra "Sandy” (Cameron) Champagne on Aug. 19, 1961. Last year they celebrated their 60th Anniversary.

Following graduation from West High School, class of 1957, Gary served in the U.S. Army and National Guard. After working in retail, he opened his own interior design studio.

Gary and Sandy called Oregon, Wis., their home for 36 years. Gary was a member of the Oregon Chamber of Commerce and proudly volunteered his time to the Summerfest Parade and Oregon Relay For Life.

Gary took great pride in his family. A mostly private man, he found beauty in the colors of nature, peace in the wilderness, and comfort in the hearts of those he loved.

Gary is survived by his wife, Sandy; sister, Jean Jones; daughters, Kelly (Jeff) Holthaus and Lynn (Todd) Thelen; son, Jim; grandsons, Riley Holthaus, Sawyer Holthaus, Justen (Anne) Thelen and Cameron Thelen; and great-granddaughter, Eliana Thelen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Marcella Champagne; and his special aunt, Marvel.

A private family graveside service will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be gifted in Gary’s name to Alzheimer’s Association-Wisconsin Chapter or Agrace HospiceCare.

Thank you to the caring staff at Badger Prairie Health Care Center, Verona and Agrace HospiceCare. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

i would think of Gary often in fact last week. Gary was a great person, he would take me along to help him. He and Sandy trusted a 15 yr old to babysit Kelly, Lynn Ann and Jimmy. An honor to have known him. Thank You Brian T
