Obituary

MONONA- John J. Wrend, age 90, of Monona, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, May 9, 2022. He was born on March 3, 1932, in Madison, the son of Benjamin and Bernadette (LaPlante) Wrend.


John graduated from Madison Central High School.  He married Donna Vick on March 12, 1955, in Madison. John served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. He worked for Oscar Mayer for 42 years, retiring in 1996.


John enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was an excellent cook and was known for his Italian sausage. He was a member of Italian Workmen's Club


John is survived by his three daughters, Jayne (Louis) Frelin, Joelle (Tom) Delury and Joyce (J.R. Chavez) Wrend; two sons, John (Jolene) Renda and Jim Renda; brother, Ben (Joyce) Wrend; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife, Donna Jean Wrend; parents, Benjamin Wrend and Bernadette Wrend; and brother, Joe Wrend.


A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2022. Private burial will be held at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday, June 2, 2022.
