Obituary

WAUNAKEE - Pat A. Vandenberg Schumacher, age 74, passed away on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, after suffering a stroke on Easter Sunday morning. Pat has now reunited with the love of her life, Mike, who just recently passed away on Dec. 28, 2021.

Pat held a variety of jobs throughout her life, working at GTE, St. Dennis Religious Education and for the Madison Metropolitan School District as a teacher’s aide and in the library. Pat was an outgoing, fun loving spirited woman who loved to be in the kitchen cooking and baking. She loved to create by sewing and by doing her crafts. Pat loved volunteering for many things including the St. Dennis Summer Festival and, of course, at the VFW Post 8483. However, Pat’s most cherished times were when she was with her seven grandchildren, watching their sporting events, their musical or dance performances or just enjoying being with them. Pat was also known for her love of gambling and her football pools and more times than not, she was a winner.

Pat is survived by her four boys, Dennis (Christine), Chad (Tara), Todd (Marisa) and Bryan (Melissa); her sister, Kathy (Roy) Retzlaff; and her precious grandkids, Nathan (fiancé Zoe Clough), Grace, Michael, Claire, Gabrielle, Kaitlyn and Cameron. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Pat was preceded in death by her husband, Mike; her parents, Perry and Pat Vandenberg; and her sister, Nancy (Vandenberg) Ober.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2022, with Father Randy Timmerman presiding. Family and friends who wish to view the Mass via LIVESTREAM may visit Pat’s obituary page at www.gundersonfh.com and click on the Live Webcast link at 11 a.m. on Thursday. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Thursday.

We are so very saddened by Pat's passing. She was such a kind and caring person and a helpful neighbor. She absolutely loved her family and talked about them daily. They helped her with her loss of her beloved husband, Michael. We are very grateful for having her as our neighbor for the last six years.
