Obituary

MADISON - Sandi Ann Flatoff, age 51, passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at UW Hospital. She was born on June 3, 1970, in Madison, the daughter of Norbert and Prayoon Flatoff.

Sandi was a vibrant larger than life soul. She was full of passion and wished to live every day to the fullest. She did not want to be defined by her limitations and strived to exceed expectations. She was full of childlike wonder and enjoyed playing, be it with board games, a new tech or kitchen gadget, an adventure somewhere new, or just being silly and dancing while she cooked.

Her laugh was infectious, and she would easily giggle herself and others to tears, sometimes over thoughts she didn't even express. Sandi was humorous, compassionate and easy to confide in. She would spend hours with her friends conversing about a whole range of topics. She was an incredibly loving Mother, often saying her daughter was the light of her life, and a doting Nana (she insisted that she was too young to be called Grandma). She often video chatted with her granddaughters using goofy filters and checked the quality of their toys by playing with them first.

She adored animals of all kinds, particularly spoiling the ones she lived with. When she had a business of ferrets, they had their own room and toys aplenty. When she had an elderly dog, he had his own stroller. Alex shared her fondness for animals, and they frequently traded stories and pictures of their antics. They also discussed music (rock and metal), appreciated the color black and shared an affinity for art, particularly drawing.

Sandi lived an artistic and creative life. She was talented at a multitude of things including drawing, painting, and piano playing (Fur Elise being the most often heard). She had a passion for making parties, holidays, and events more special, adding flair and whimsy wherever she could. She would put confetti in cards, create fun, handmade, decorations and favors, add excessive glitter and curled ribbon, think of every detail and how she could make it unique.

She was generous. At holiday time she would bake a plethora of cookies and treats, delivering them to her friends and family. The most favorite and requested treat were her rosettes. Sandi enjoyed reading and soaking in new knowledge. She most often read fantasy, science fiction and mystery novels, and listened to audio books with her Dad. She had a special bond with her father and they exchanged witty banter often.

Sandi was strong and independent, choosing to follow her own drum to pursue her happiness. She spent time living abroad in Australia, Scotland, and France. Her most treasured trip was to Thailand with her mother, where she explored her ancestry and developed a deep appreciation for it. She enjoyed exploring, soaking in sights, and learning about history. Sandi inspired fun and joy wherever she went and within all who met her. She was a bright light who will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

Sandi is survived by her daughter, Bryanna (Austin Sherven) Cure; granddaughters, Seralyn Cure and Skylah Cure Sherven; mother, Prayoon; brothers, Michael (Michelle) Flatoff, Daniel (Lori) Flatoff and Alex Flatoff; nephews, Logan Hole, Zander, Aiden, Christian, and Brighton Flatoff, and Dirk Flatoff; and former partner, James Cure. She was preceded in death by her father, Norbert Flatoff.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, with Father Randy Timmerman presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass on Tuesday.
