Obituary

MONONA - Andrew “Andy” Meis, age 29, of Monona, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2022.  He was born on Aug. 1, 1992, in Tonawanda, N.Y., the son of Ronald and Darlene Meis.

Andy graduated from Monona Grove High School in 2010 and attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison studying geography and sociology.

Playing video games and watching movies were Andy’s daily passions.  Comedy and humor were always at the forefront of his enjoyment from childhood on up through adulthood.  Andy loved taking multi-hour long walks in downtown Madison around the Capitol and Monona Terrace.  He found these very cathartic.  He enjoyed listening to both metal as well as classical music.  Andy loved spending time with his dad eating out at ethnic restaurants and watching movies from his vast DVD collection.  Andy was especially close to his mother and enjoyed everything from their daily interactions to cooking a variety of cuisines for the two of them.

Andy's absolute favorite weekend activity was watching movies, playing video games, and bantering with his best friend, Nick Abel.  Andy had a passion for geography, World War II history and world news. Andy loved animals and adored his pets throughout his lifetime including, Knuckies (cockatiel); his dogs, Oreo and Twister; and his beloved feline companion, Mrs. Kitty Cat.

Andy will be greatly missed by his family: father, Ronald (Judy) Meis; mother, Darlene Meis (Mark Stransky); brother, Alan (Katelyn) Meis; stepbrothers, Scott and Jake Schanke; his grandmother, Judy Meis; as well as his aunts and uncles, Diane and Henry Bishop, Debbie and John Grager, and Sue and Tim Pollauf; cousins, Andrew (Laura) Bishop, Melanie Bishop, and Corey Pollauf; as well as Andy’s number one friend in the world, Nick Abel.

Memorials may be gifted in Andy’s name to: CTA: Journey Mental Health Community Treatment Alternatives, 2000 Fordem Ave., Madison, WI  53704 https://journeymhc.org/donate/ (Designation - Community Based Services). Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Andy brightened up our lives when he shared meals with us. He often saved up funny videos and puns for when I came over to visit both Dar (my partner) and him. He enjoyed the flags of other countries and was very knowledgeable about geography. I have many memories of him that I will carry with me. I miss him. Mark Stransky

I loved his Bernie t-shirt! He always made me smile when he wore it and our conversations.
