Michael F. McNerney

STOUGHTON - Michael Francis McNerney, age 29, of Stoughton, passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2022, after a long, brave battle with mental illness.

He was born on June 16, 1992, in Elmhurst, IL, the son of Frank and Christine (Matusik) McNerney. Mike grew up in Winfield, IL, and attended Wheaton North High School and later graduated from the UW-Madison with a Bachelors in Spanish.  

Mike was an avid racquetball player and coached the UW-Madison team. He played high school baseball and soccer. Mike was fluent in Spanish and spent a year abroad in Spain enjoying the language and culture. He loved watersports, paddle boarding and wake boarding (and was a champion beersbee player!), as well as enjoyed cooking and spending time with his family and friends. Mike was a kind, generous, fun-loving, outgoing, caring and beautiful person. His infectious spirit will be missed by so many.

Mike is survived by his parents, Frank and Christine; sister, Marissa (Mike Coutre) McNerney; maternal grandmother, Carol Matusik; and many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Frank and Lois McNerney; and maternal grandfather, Francis Matusik.

A memorial service will be held at GUNDERSON STOUGHTON FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 1358 Highway 51 N. at Jackson St., Stoughton, at 5 p.m., on Saturday, April 2, 2022. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m., on Saturday.
