I worked with Derek at Oakhill and I will always remember him as someone who always had a smile on his face, a joke in his heart, and saw the best in everyone. Joe M.

I knew Derek from Mendota Mental Health Institute. He always had a smile on his face every time I'd see him passing me in the tunnels. I just knew by the conversations that we had that he was very passionate about his job. I always enjoyed our conversations about LaFollette High School football and basketball games. I saw him at a football and a few basketball games. I'd see him and he was always so very kind and he had a great sense od humor. He told me that he really appreciated the housekeepers and how hard we work. He will be missed! My deepest sympathy to Derek's family at this very difficult time.

My boys and I have been so blessed to know Derek and see him as an active father, never missing an opportunity to cheer for his boys! As a sideline parent, no one will ever beat the cheering and cowbell ringing! He cheered for every single child playing and helped create a family on the sideline amongst parents, who will forever stand by his family's side. Sending all the love and hugs to his family.

Derek will be remembered often. His genuine nature and spirit will always be thought of. He was louder than the entire student section; he always got us parents going, year after year...that cowbell...! The best Father his two boys could ask for. Thank you Derek for making Irie's 15th drive-by b'day a success in the convertible. So many great memories. The role model you have been to Irie will be treasured. Love and friendship, Lisa and Irie. We are here for anything!
