Rintaro Arakane

MADISON - On Friday Jan. 5, 2024, Rintaro Arakane, loving husband, and father, passed away at the age of 38, after a five-year battle with ALS.

Rintaro was born on April 24, 1985, in Japan, to Takashi Arakane and Gisella Mancero. After graduating with a degree in Systems Administration, he worked for the Diocese of Madison as their System Administrator, kickstarting a nine-year career in the field.

In 2012, Rintaro met Adriana in their hometown of Guayaquil, Ecuador. They knew right away they wanted to spend their life together, but Rintaro had to go back to his job in Madison, Wis. After a year and a half of a long-distance relationship, he married the love of his life on Aug. 16, 2013. They raised one daughter, Emi.

Rintaro was known for his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit. He was funny and could make you laugh until you cried. Rintaro was a sweet compassionate person, honest with strong moral principles. His favorite soccer team was Real Madrid.

Rintaro is survived by his wife; Adriana; daughter, Emi; parents, Gisella and Takashi; and sister, Masumi (Eduardo) and their daughter, Naomi; and sister, Minami (Ricardo).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. THOMAS AQUINAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 602 Everglade Drive, Madison, at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024, with Bishop Donald J. Hying presiding.  Burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow at the church. A visitation will take place at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Thursday.

We also want to give a special thanks to Father Faustino Ruiz and the Society of Jesus Christ the Priest and Father Bart Timmerman. We would also like to thank, in no particular order, our friends and their families, who selflessly came to our rescue so many times, and supported us in more than one occasion: Karen and Mark Lawler, Eric and Koena Schiedemayer, The Denzin Family, The Snell Family, The Guerra-Ballesteros Family, The Usher Family, The Waldron Family, The Wills Family, The Howard Family, The Simmons Family, and Teri Bryant. A special thanks to Dr. Stephanie Gardon and the ALS team at UW Hospital.

Last but not least, thank you to our families who supported us, and endured this hard journey with us, full of love and hope. Especially to Gisella Mancero and Alfonso Reyes, who took time away from their lives, to come and live with us for many months at the time.
