Obituary

DETROIT / MADISON, Wis. - Goodbye, Jacquelin Rose Fontella (August 1944-February 2023)-a classy, tough, lovely lady. Jacquelin adored her family, her friends, and her Sirron Street neighbors. She was like a second mom to many. You just could talk to her about anything. She showered everyone with love, acceptance, and sass.

Her proudest moments included bringing her son home from the hospital and having “this little person in my arms.” She was also proud of her floral business that started with scavenging ribbon from craft store dumpsters and grew to decorating the historic Meadowbrook Hall Museum at Christmas. But she was always most comfortable behind the bar. She began making drinks at 16 and ran a private boat club for many years, from where she retired.

In later life, she relocated to Madison, Wis., to be with her son, Robert Fontella, daughter-in-law, Amelia (née Cook) and grandchildren, Francis and Luisa. She came to love the state of Wisconsin as much as her home city of Detroit.

Jacquelin was laid to rest on a bed of roses and her ashes will be spread in Detroit. A celebration of life is being planned-stay in touch at thefontellas@gmail.com to learn more. Jackie, enjoy your under the table wine. Cuddle Snickers. Take a spin in your Cadillac on heaven's Outer Drive. And keep sending us signs.

We will miss Jackie as when we would go to the Mariners boat club she would serve up a good drink and conversation. Jackie always kept you engaged, she had a lot of energy. When I gave a party to celebrate our daughters 25th anniversary she helped me plan it and of course it came off without a hitch. We loved Jackie.
