Obituary

MADISON - Michael Gordon Radel, age 65, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Middleton Village. He was born on July 20, 1958, in Madison, the son of Gordon and Darlene (Burton) Radel.


Michael graduated from Madison East High School in 1976, where he lettered in track. He then graduated from MATC in 1978 with a business finance degree.


Michael was fascinated by space exploration and enjoyed collecting rocks, crystals and fossils. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing, the farmer's market and Olbrich Gardens. Michael had the ability to befriend people of all ages and change their hearts. He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church.


Michael is survived by his son, Shawn (Sarah) Rakow; grandchildren, Paisley and Peyton; sisters, Candace (Kevin) Nielson and Tamara Radel; nieces and nephews, Megan (Cory) Scheider, Monica (Eric) Weaver and their son, Callahan, Samantha (Kellen) Rupert, Sophia (Arturo Garcia) and their son, Dean, Michael (Cassondra) Shumway and their children, Nathan, Emmaline and Jovie; and Janet Shumway and her children, Preston, Lillian and Annilynn.


He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Daniel (Sharon) Radel.


A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2024, and also at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday. Burial will be held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Muscoda, following the service.

 

The family wishes to thank Agrace HospiceCare, Burnie's Rock Shop, Middleton Village, especially, Laura and staff for all of their care and support given to Mike and his family.


In the end, Michael was able to deal with his issues with depression and alcoholism. Please know there is help and hope out there for you. We were blessed to have the last four months with Michael to gain understanding and a deeper love.

Our Brother Michael and I had taken a road trip and we discovered this scenic overlook, where I took this picture of him. Michael left me with a lifetime of memories and I know that he is free of pain and in a beautiful place. I will miss you forever my brother, my moon man 🌈🩵
