Obituary

MADISON- David R. Arnold, age 86, passed away on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022, surrounded by his family, at St. Mary's Hospice.  He was born at home on July 12, 1935, in Arena, Wis., the son of Neil and Hazel (Whitt) Arnold.  

Dave graduated from Barneveld High School with the class of 1953. He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Meili, on April 27, 1957, at St. Bridget Catholic Church in Ridgeway, Wis.

Dave worked for Bancroft Dairy on South Park Street in Madison, retiring after 42 years of service. He then helped to care for his family and worked part time at PDQ on East Buckeye Road.

Dave and Evelyn were long time members and volunteers at St. Dennis Church in Madison. Dave enjoyed reading, playing cards and board games with family and friends. He and Evelyn enjoyed traveling and camping, often with their good friends, Don and Diane Brockman. Most of all Dave loved spending time with his large family and many friends.

Dave is survived by his wife, Evelyn; children, Jeanette (Terry) Richardson and Michael (Kerry) Arnold; grandchildren, Erica Fletcher, Carly Julin, Kayla (Nicholas) Rivera, Seth Schumacher, Drew (Erin) Arnold and Calvin Arnold; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Lori Arnold and Brenda Hensleigh; grandson, Jared Schumacher; his parents; and siblings, Mary (Trainor) Jones and Lawrence.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. DENNIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 5, 2022, with Father Randy Timmerman presiding.  Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens. A visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Saturday.

Mrs Arnold, Mike and Jeanette. So sorry for your loss, our loss. So many memories came flooding back. From whisker runs at your kitchen table before he left for work to family camping trips, Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day picnics. I can remember the last time I saw him at my dad’s funeral and the last thing I said to him “I love you” Sorry I won’t be able to be there on Saturday. These two are finally back playing cards together.

I worked with Dave for 15 years at Bancroft Dairy as the H.R. Manager. During that time, Dave and I handled many different, and quite interesting, issues on the plant floor. So much of the time, his advice was so sound as we whittled our way thru them. He was so kind, such a gentleman and truly cared for the people who worked for and with him. He knew how the operation worked after having been there for 42 years. He could belly laugh so hard as he retold the plant floor stories! And he could show serious tears if the incident warranted! After his retirement, my husband, Gary, our dear friend, Rachel Hollman, and Dave and Evelyn, spent lots of time together playing dominos and breaking bread together. Great times those were!! I think I speak for all of those who worked with and for Dave-he was truly a kind, fun-loving friend who will truly be missed! Rest In Peace, dear friend. Terri Engel

Bancroft Dairy was my first job when I moved to Madison. I worked in the office but had several opportunities to talk to Dave Arnold and ask him questions with just about every accounting project I was working on at the time - whether it was about milk or packaging. He usually knew what I needed and he was always kind and patient. He never treated me like a pest. He always greeted me by name and had a smile for me. Dave gave me this Bancroft mug (picture attached) when he was cleaning out his office (in 1996?). I have treasured it since, because it was a gift from a kind man whom I admired. I think of him every time I see it or use it. To his family and close friends: I am sorry for your loss. The world was a better place with Dave Arnold in it. -Ann MacLaughlin-Berres

Dave was the best brother-in-law a person could have. Loved getting together with the family for the many celebrations we had. Love to all .❤️
