MIDDLETON - Darlene Kay "Darce" Olson, age 79, of Middleton, passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at her home. She was born on January 22, 1946, in Portage, Wis., the daughter of Harley Horn and Maxine Anacker.
Darce grew up on a farm 60 miles north of Madison. She left home to pursue a nursing degree in Fond Du Lac. After marrying and later divorcing, she moved to Middleton to begin a new chapter in her life. On August 10, 1974, she married her second husband, David Olson, at St. Lukes Lutheran Church. She enjoyed a career as a Licensed Practical Nurse and later worked for the Middleton Cross Plains School District.
One of Darce’s greatest joys were becoming a foster parent that began early in her marriage. Over the years, David and she welcomed over 50 children into their home, ultimately leading to the adoption of her children. Her final foster child, Chanthy Anongdeth, was a refugee from Laos.
Darce found joy in simple pleasures like gardening, reading, going on walks and spending time with her grandchildren. A dedicated volunteer, she gave generously of her time and talents to St. Luke’s, serving in nearly every capacity. She was a trusted listener to many fellow co-workers, friends and family. She also cherished her role as captain of a close-knit friendship boat group- a circle of friends who gathered weekly for fun, fellowship and support.
Darlene is survived by her daughter, Kim (Martin Burn) Olson; son, Kevin Olson; grandchildren, Weston, Alexis and Wyatt; a sister, Dianne (Ken) Preuss; nephews Brian (Garima) and Jason (Krissy); and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, David Olson.
A memorial service will be held at ST. LUKE'S LUTHERAN CHURCH, 7337 Hubbard Ave., Middleton, at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2025, with Pastor Julie Krahn presiding. Burial will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
