Obituary

MCFARLAND - Dennis L. Meeker, age 78, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022, with his family by his side. Dennis was born in Richland Center, the son of Thomas and Florence (Ferstl) Meeker. He was the youngest of three brothers raised by their mother and paternal grandmother, Alvina (Nachreiner) Meeker.

After graduating from high school Dennis joined the U.S. Navy, where he sailed on multiple ships through the Atlantic and Caribbean Seas. Once he left the Navy he moved to Madison, where he studied Auto Repair at MATC and met his future wife, Jane, while living in the same apartment complex. They were married on Oct. 24, 1970, and moved to McFarland, where they resided for over 40 years and raised two children, Tim and Julie. Dennis retired from Kraft-Oscar Mayer, where he worked for 38 years. Once he retired, he found part time work at Menards as a way to stay active.

Denny was a true handyman and loved his projects. From working on cars to building a garage, he truly loved learning, working with his hands, and helping others. There wasn’t much he couldn’t build, install, or fix. Over the years he enjoyed many good (or bad) rounds of golf with family and friends. You could often find Denny in the outdoors camping, hunting, or fishing. He also enjoyed annual winter trips to Florida.

Denny was proud of his children and particularly proud of his three granddaughters. He enjoyed watching their school programs and cheering them on while on the basketball court or soccer pitch. If he couldn’t be there in person, he was watching the game online.

Dennis is survived by his son, Tim (Sandy) Meeker of Waunakee; daughter, Julie Meeker of Oviedo, Fla.; granddaughters, Aimee, Kailee and Emilee Meeker; brother, Jim (Marilyn) Meeker of Hub City; and sister-in-law, Marian Meeker of Edgerton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Meeker; his parents; brother, Lyle Meeker; parents-in-law, Peter and Loraine Mergen; and sister-in-law, Sue Mergen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at CHRIST THE KING CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5306 Main St., McFarland, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 25, 2022. Julie and Tim - I was so sorry to hear of your father’s passing from my parents. It brought a tear to my eye thinking of our days sitting around the campfire and tubing down the river. My family will be thinking of you and wishing you peace during this sad time. - Tracy (Ryan) Weiss
