Obituary

MAZOMANIE - Karen Elizabeth Hill, age 29, of Mazomanie, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2022. She was born on July 31, 1992, in San Antonio, Texas, the daughter of Joel and Dianne (Thompson) Hill.

Growing up, Karen traveled with her parents as her father served in the U.S. Air Force, moving to several different states including Texas, Virginia, North Dakota, California, Alaska, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. She graduated from Stevens High School in Rapid City, S.D., in 2010, where she played on the varsity volleyball team.

Karen attained her bachelor’s degree in International Studies from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2014. She had many jobs since graduating, most recently working for All Pets Veterinary Clinic. She loved spending time with her cats, Fitz and Lucy, and her dog, Bochy. She was known by all for her care and compassion; while traveling, she fed and housed stray cats to make them well.

She was a great cook and baker and was known to bring in cupcakes and baked goods to work. Karen had a great sense of humor and was always joking; this was encompassed in her classic 2005 poem Ode to Linoleum. She was a skilled crocheter and sewer, and the homemade crafts she gifted to her loved ones will be treasured forever. With a widely varied taste in media, she loved Pride and Prejudice and One Direction with equal ferocity. The middle of three children, Karen was a loving and protective sister; she was one of the brightest lights in her family’s life, and their lives will never be the same.

Karen is survived by her parents; brother, Jake Hill; and sister, Kate Hill.

A memorial service will be held at NEW HEIGHTS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1705 Center St., Black Earth, at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2022. A memorial gathering will be held at the church from 12:30 p.m. until the start of the service on Tuesday.
