CROSS PLAINS - Robert McGinnis, age 81, of Cross Plains, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2022. He was born on March 13, 1940, in Watertown, Wis., the son of Francis and Virginia (Nagle) McGinnis. He married Alice (Gleisner) McGinnis on Feb. 4, 1961.


Bob graduated from Jefferson High School in 1957, where he played football and wrestled. He served in the U.S. Army reserves for three years and graduated from MATC. Afterwards, Bob served his tool and die apprenticeship at Graber and eventually opened his own business, McGinnis Tool and Die, in 1976. He worked hard his entire life to be successful and was proud of the work he did. He was a talented craftsman and enjoyed making and collecting miniature firearms in his retirement.


Bob was a longtime member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and a member of the Miniature Arms Society. He was an avid Badgers and Packers fan. He loved traveling all over the U.S. and spending time outdoors, and he especially enjoyed trips to the cabin in Eagle River with his family. Bob was a dedicated family man who was immensely devoted to his children and grandchildren.


Robert is survived by his wife, Alice; sons, Michael (Rose) McGinnis, Daniel (Lauren Jensen) McGinnis and Timothy McGinnis; daughter, Veronica (James) Devlin; grandchildren, Laura (Sam) Wilkinson, Jennifer McGinnis, Anna Devlin, Jimmy Devlin and David Jensen; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tom McGinnis and Daniel McGinnis; and sister, Patricia Sievert.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHOLIC CHURCH, 2947 Thinnes St., Cross Plains, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022, with Father Scott Jablonski presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 9 a.m. until the start of the Mass on Thursday.
