MADISON - Alexander Travis West passed from this world on February 4, 2022.  Born June 19, 2006, Alex was a prolific writer and his journals speak to his firm belief that one should identify the important things in life and live every moment for them. For Alex, these important things included his family, his friends, sports, and his insatiable desire to explore the world.  His fierce competitive nature on the soccer field paled next to his love and compassion for the people in his orbit.  Alex is succeeded by his parents, Ryan and Travis; sister, Julia; and grandparents, Patrice, Mary, and James.  He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Rick.


A visitation will be held at St. Dennis Catholic Church, 505 Dempsey Road, Madison, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2022, with a funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. Family and friends who wish to view the service via LIVE STREAM may visit Alexander’s obituary page at www.gundersonfh.com and click on the Live Webcast link at 1 p.m. on Saturday. The family requests  that donations be made to St. Dennis Catholic School instead of sending flowers. Following the service, please join the family at The Madison Club, 5 E. I did not know Alex, but his sister Julia is in my niece's class. He sounded like a very caring individual, and I trust that many people will get a second chance at life because of his generosity. The 12 Noon Mass at Relevant Radio (1240 AM or 97.3 FM in Madison) will be celebrated for the repose of Alex's soul on Monday, February 14, in honor of the love he gave in his life and in his death. Prayers for the family during this very difficult time.

Our family hurts for yours. Malachi and Suraya both remember Alex from school and also soccer. He was a great kid and will be missed. God be with you all and give you comfort.

I remember over the summer of 2020, I was having a tough time in isolation. I was not in the best place and posted something on my instagram story that could have been taken as concerning. Alex replied to my story and DM'd me and we talked for about 2 hours about isolation being tough and how he was here if I needed him. It spoke to me a lot, considering I had gone to school with him only in 4K-2nd grade, but he made such an impact on me, even when I wasn't directly around him. Alex touched the hearts of so many people with his kindness and caring spirit. He was such a great friend to have.

Once me and my cousin were driving and she was on ft with him and i heard great things about him before that but that was the night i first met him. It was also the last.
