Obituary

MADISON - Lucille K. McKee, age 92, of Monona, passed away on Friday, Dec. 9, 2022, at Meriter Hospital. She was born on May 11, 1930, the daughter of Banford and Kathryn (Hosely) Stugard. Lucille attended the one room country grade school, McPherson, and graduated in 1948 from Verona High School. She was employed at Oscar Mayer and Co. for 40 years, retiring in August of 1991.


Lucille enjoyed good food, playing cards, gardening, baking cookies, listening to country western music, doing and helping with craft wood, and being around family. She worked several years with the 4-H Club, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts in Monona.


Lucille is survived by her son, James McKee of Waunakee; daughter, Delores “Dolly” Barber of McFarland; five grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; several cousins; and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra Lynn McKee (2006); parents, Banford and Kathryn Stugard; and very special grandparents, Henry K. and Katherine Hosely of New Glarus and Harold and Betsy Stugard of Mount Horeb.


A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 11 a.m., on Friday, Dec. 16, 2022. Burial will be held at Springdale Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.

My puppies and i would stop by and see Lucy as she sat outside in her driveway. She was always very friendly. Have know her most of my life. She will be missed. Thoughts and prayers to Dolly and the family.

My dearest "Grandma" Lucy. My My you were such a wonderful, loving lady. My Grandpa Popeye had some great laughs with you and I took to you immediately. I have very fond memories of you that I will always treasure, and I still have the earrings you gave me for my high school graduation, along with some of your letters. We really did enjoy writing back and forth. I wish upon you a heaven that is everything you hoped it would be and more.

I think of Lucille often and our many conversations about her family's and local history with her connection to the Mount Horeb Area Historical Society and her desire to preserve for future generations her bit of rural history. She had such deep interest in the Stugaard farm on Town Hall Road where I was raised and in her childhood farm also in Springdale. Loved her constantly upbeat attitude. I grew up living next door to Lucy for almost all of my childhood and teen years. Lucy and family were a part of our family and always in our hearts. As my family grew, Lucy was always part of it and she became a much loved lady to my husband and children. It is so hard to imagine life going on without her. May the knowledge of her being in God's loving care comfort all that love her.

You were my favorite Aunt. I have so many fond memories of your garden and the adults playing euchre on the picnic table. Our trip to Disneyland with 12 people crammed into our Ford pickup pulling a little camp trailer. Visiting the Grand Canyon. Over the years I could always count on Wisconsin cheese and Oscar Mayer cold cuts when we visited. I will always remember your salt and pepper shaker collection. You will be greatly missed.
