Obituary

STOUGHTON - David A. Anderson, age 75, a man known for his love for his Savior, Jesus Christ; his jolly sense of humor; and his amazing ability to repair anything; entered into heaven on January 24, 2022.

David was born in Cloquet, Minnesota, to Arnold and Helvi (Staudinger) Anderson on July 30, 1946. He was raised in Esko and Duluth, Minnesota. He graduated from Duluth Central High School and Salter Vocational School with a certification in Auto Mechanics.

After serving as a radio teletype operator in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era, David attended Spartan School of Aeronautics in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he became a licensed aircraft mechanic. Later, he earned an Authorized Inspector license as well.

Also an accomplished pilot, David held many ratings, including Commercial Pilot, Multi-engine Flight Instructor, Instrument Instructor, Float Plane Instructor, and Airline Transport Pilot. Teaching others to fly was a passion for David, and he did so while managing Sky Harbor Airport in Duluth and owning a flight school in Waukesha, Wisconsin. His former students still maintain that he was the best instructor ever. Dave's career also included time spent as a corporate pilot, flying freight around Wisconsin, and working for FedEx as a jet mechanic.

Even more important to David than aviation, however, was that everyone should know that God loves them and that Jesus died to pay the penalty for our sin. He wanted all to "make arrangements to miss hell," as he often said. He also told his beloved grandchildren that when they would someday hear he had died, they should not believe it--he would be more alive than ever! He would have simply changed addresses!

For thirty years, Dave faced a myriad of health challenges and accepted each one with faith and good humor, inspiring all who knew him well.

Surviving David and missing him greatly, are his wife of nearly 54 years, Claudia (Baker) Anderson; his daughter, Kate (Luke) Dennis; and grandchildren, Isabelle, Ava, and Indiana Dennis; all of Stoughton. Rejoicing with David in heaven today are his sons, Jon and Jason Anderson; his parents; and his father-in-law, Robert Baker. He is also survived by four siblings: Darrell (Brenda) Anderson, Sharon (Bill) Finn, Saundra (Donald) Singh, Dan (Maureen) Anderson; his mother-in-law, Jan Baker; and many nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and gnephews. All much-loved! David would also want to acknowledge his many special cousins in Western Canada and the Pacific Northwest.

For thirty-four years, David has been a member of LakeView Church in Stoughton. An outdoor memorial gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.

"My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."  Psalm 73:26

The Singh family would like to extend our deepest condolences to all of Dave's family at this time of loss. The most vivid memories I have of David, my brother, are the times he played with my children while they were young. Dave was very good with children. I can still see him in my mind's eye, holding my daughter, Lara, close to his chest at the dining room table at 2316. At one point, he stood Lara up on the table and was being silly, poking her in the tummie and affectionately calling her "La-La" while doing everything he could to get her to smile. No such luck as Lara has always had a mind of her own and was not about to comply. As a last resort, David urged her, several times, NOT to smile, each time playfully becoming more insistent. True to form, instead of complying, Lara collapsed her legs so David would have to return her to her original position with David holding her close against his chest but, on her way down, I detected the faintest hint of a coy little smile as she rested her head on Dave's shoulder. Success!! :o) Saundra Singh

David was always a dreamer and looked for the possibilities in life and in applying faith to life. We look forward to living out those possibilities with him in eternity in Jesus. Good memories even in the midst of very difficult times and circumstances. God is good and we know that more because how He worked in David's life and that of his family.

I will be praying for all the family and friends left behind that are and will continue to miss David. I get comfort in knowing that he is now reunited with others that have went before him as well as getting to be with our Lord. He also no longer has to suffer the pain of his Earthly body. David is an amazing man, full of knowledge and wisdom yet humble enough to listen and learn from others around him. My time spent with David was always filled with joy as we discussed a wide variety of topics. I am thankful to be able to call David a friend and am grateful for his kind and loving nature in which he engaged with me and my son. He will be greatly missed.

Deepest Sympathy to Claudia and David's Family. When I was old enough to Babysit, I spent many a time taking care of the Anderson Children, they were a wonderful family. I had good instruction from his Mother to do this and that, which was good care. I remember his siblings, also, so to them I send Condolences, also! Jean (Sunnarborg) Anderson.

I just found this obituary today. I hadn't heard from Dave in several years and knew he was in poor health. He was my flight instructor and for many years afterward a theological jousting partner. I'll remember his passionate conservative positions, which he forthrightly shared with me on many occasions. The hospitality he and Claudia shared with us on our only visit to Stoughton remains a bright memory. I look forward to meeting him again in heaven, once we're both there. Our sympathies to the family. Phil Weiler
