William L. Brown

MCFARLAND - William L. “Bill” Brown, age 84, of McFarland, passed away on Friday, Jan. 21, 2022, at Meriter Hospital. He was born on Jan. 27, 1937, in Elizabethton, Tenn., the son of William and Anna (Guil) Brown.

William served in the U.S. Air Force as an airplane mechanic.  He was united in marriage to Joanne Morhauser on June 21, 1958, in Madison, Wis. William worked as a cable splicer for Madison Gas and Electric for over 30 years, retiring in 1999.  He was a member of the Portage American Legion Post No. 2930 and a former member of both the EAA and Madison Area Radio Control SOC.  

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapshooting, spending time at his cabin up north and taking summer road trips with his family.  Bill was a talented woodworker, loved photography and enjoyed all things related to airplanes.   He loved spending time with his grandchildren and attending all their sporting events.

William is survived by his wife, Joanne; three sons, Tom (Darlene) Brown, William A. Brown and Rob (Christy) Brown; daughter, AnneMarie (Marty) Machado; three granddaughters, Nina (Brad) DeVault, Ashley (Nick) Bergeman and Holly (Dylan) Hanson; two grandsons, Tommy (fiancée, Aneeta Baladi) Brown and Austin Brown; seven great-grandchildren, Payton and Bo Hanson, Reagan and Rowan DeVault, and Blaine, Brooks and Eva Bergeman; two brothers, Eugene (Carmen) Brown and Doug Brown; and four sisters, Judy (Buck) Smith, Regina (Larry) Presnell, Chrissy (Doug) Souder and Susie (Bob) Hazenfield.  He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Lois, Marilyn and Joanne; and brother, Jim.

A funeral service will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12 noon on Friday, Jan. 28, 2022. Burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery.
