MADISON - Surrounded by love, Ann Behrens passed away at home on Thursday, January 20, 2022.


It's been a great life thanks to my family and friends who I leave behind.


Especially my nieces and their families, Elizabeth and Marty Stahle, Lydia and Zach; Vicki and John Huettl and Alex; and Kathy Treu and Tim. My dearest friend, Mary Lewis. My girls; Pam, Diane, Doreen and Laura. And those who went before me. My parents, Elmer and Lydia, brothers, Peter and Jim and sister-in-law Rose.


Ann, together with her brother, Peter, owned Flagstad Flower Shop on Schenk’s Corners from 1981 until retirement in 2011. The flower shop was a place where customers became friends and those who entered through the back door were like family.


Ann will be greatly missed by her family, friends and faithful companions, Maybelline, Oso and Joanie.


Auntie Ann was a light in our lives and our love for her will never dim. She was our blessing from God and we admired her greatly. Ann lived her life with grace and elegance. She was kind, loving and funny. She made the special times in our lives more special. She never forgot a birthday, holiday or a “favorite” day. Auntie Ann was a cheerleader for all our accomplishments, she listened and guided with wisdom. She was someone we always wanted to be near. We were lucky to have her as long as we did, but it will never be long enough. Thank you for being our aunt and friend.  We will miss you.


Ann was my dearest friend and soul sister. A true blessing in my life. Over the last 6 years she had many challenges and she faced each and every one of them with strength and courage and all with grace and beauty. She is a true inspiration. Through the years we have shared laughter, tears and more shenanigans than should be mentioned. Ours is a friendship with no end.


Where there was Ann there was joy. For this group of friends, she was the calming voice in the room, the listening ear to all of our stories, the words that gave great wisdom, the eyes that saw our faults and loved us anyway. The touch that meant we were in a safe space. Ann was the “matriarch” of our little group. Together we laughed, tipped a few, ate a bunch, traveled a bit, dealt a lot of cards, chatted a ton and loved each other’s company. We love you Ann. Your seat at the game table will always be open for you.

At Ann’s request, no funeral services will be held.

I'm so, so sorry to hear about Ann. She was one in a million. So kind, so funny, giving, honest, smart, so many things. She will be missed by so many. I loved stopping by the flower shop to visit, playing golf, tennis, cards, and more. Rest in peace Ann, I hope you and Peter are together again with your wonderful humor.

I first met Ann & Mary at Cherokee Country Club when we played in a tennis league. Gosh, but that was a LOT of years ago!! We became friends & enjoyed some of those card & game nights - while tipping a few. I've lost touch over the years but will always remember those days as fun times. RIP Ann. My thoughts are with your family & friends.

So so sorry to hear of Ann's passing. I treasure the memory of 4 of us grade school girls from Madison Lutheran School singing at funerals. Her laugh was infectious. Rest in peace Ann. Say hi to Peter and Jim for me.

I first met Ann( and Peter and Mary) when I opened a hair salon down the block from Flagstads. They were the absolute best business neighbors and became friends. Every year I would host an Anniversary party for my business and without fail, they always sent the most elaborate floral arrangement. Boyfriends, and then my husband always sent flowers from there and they always were the most spectacular bouquets you have ever seen! Ann was kind and fun, generous to a fault… she always had a smile on her face and maybe even a snarky remark to add in jest. She is one of those people in life.. when your paths cross, they are unforgettable. RIP dear Ann, you were a truly special woman.

This is such a beautifully written obit. Each of you have my deepest condolences. I worked with Ann and she was such a pleasure to be around. Yes, warm, kind and funny. Almost always when asked " how ya doin Ann?" "Oh, just dandy" in that morose tone that made you laugh. She shared growing up in her Lutheran family and school and the laughs she and Peter had at the dinner table, much to theIr parents chagrin. She often expressed how dear each of the family members and friends were to her. Never to be forgotten was her profound love for Ricky Nelson!!! I suspect from now on , Ill shed a tear and smile for this dear lady whenever I hear one of his songs. We have all been blessed to know Ann. -TK
