Obituary

MADISON- Dr. David E. Rupnow passed away Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022, at Azura Memory Care in Stoughton. He would have been 79 years old in February. David was the son of Arnie and Viola (Lettow) Rupnow of Oconomowoc. He had a career in education and taught at Oconomowoc Sr. High School, Houston Community College, the University of Texas Health Science Center and Gateway Technical College in Racine. David also served in the National Guard.

David graduated from St. Paul’s Lutheran Grade School, Oconomowoc Sr. High School, the University of Wisconsin (BS), Whitewater State University (MA) and the University of Wisconsin (PhD). His field of study was communications. David loved to travel and photography was his accomplished hobby.

David is survived by his sister, Ethel (Rupnow) Buchta; brother, Thomas Rupnow; sister-in-law, Sharon Granzow; seven nieces and nephews; 12 great-nieces and great-nephews; and caring friends. Preceding him in death were his parents; brother, Allan Rupnow; sister, Barbara (Rupnow) Frazier-who passed in August; and infant sister, Grace.

The family wishes to thank Tracy, Aimee and the staff at Azura, David’s home the past six months. Also, thanks go to the Agrace HospiceCare team for the care you provided him in the recent six weeks.

Uncle David was a good, kind, smart and funny man and we will all miss him very much! He was one of my Mother's (Barbara Frazier) brothers and was a big part of our life especially during the years he lived in Houston where we grew up. He had a passion for education, photography and exploring new areas of the country. He was an advocate for so many young people and encouraged my sons to pursue their college education and great careers! He will be greatly missed by us all. He is pictured here one of the times he visited us in Destin, Florida area, where we live. Left to right, Uncle Dave, me/Sheila and Uncle Tom Rupnow.
