Mary Lou Lamb

OREGON / STOUGHTON - Formally named “Mary Louisa” but known by most as “Mary Lou” passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, Wis. She was born on Nov. 14, 1921, to Frank Uberta and Fanny Pricilla (Evans) Jordan on their farm between Oregon and Brooklyn, Wis., just off County Road A.  She had one sister, Beth, and a brother, Volney.

Mary Lou grew up on the farm and especially loved her pony, Babe, and her dog, Trixie.  She attended Devine Country Grade School at the corner of County A and Union Road between Brooklyn and Oregon, Wis.  Later, she rode the school bus to Brooklyn High School.

During high school, she met Virgil Lamb.  During the summer, she worked for the Baltz Luchsinger family along with the benefit of seeing Virgil daily as he picked up their milk.  After graduation, they were married.  They had an interesting and wonderful marriage for 77 years before his passing.  

Together, they had five children, Betty (Jack) Thornton, Janesville, Wis., Sharon (Carl) Gustafson, Madison, Wis., Shirley (Larry) Gilbert, Oregon, Wis., Virgil Jr. (Donna) Lamb, Puyallup, Wash., and Alan (Sue) Lamb, McFarland, Wis.  

Mary Lou was blessed with ten grandchildren, Scott (Dora) Thornton, Cedar City, Utah, Trisha (Brent) Rust, Janesville, Wis. Robert (Rhonda) Gustafson, Dane, Wis. Melinda (Charles) Gervasi, Madison, Wis., Jon (Annette) Lamb, Puyallup, Wash., Amanda (McWoodolf) Point Du Jour, City of Bonney Lake, Wash., Annique (Dane') London, Minneapolis, Minn., Jeremy (Jill) Gilbert, Hillsboro, Wis., Kelly (Drew) Agosto, Robbinsdale, Minn., and Ryan (Lindsay) Lamb, McFarland, Wis.  She also had many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by her nephew, Lowell (Wanda) Jordan, Redlands, Calif.; and niece, Holly (Charles) Guzman, Riverside, Calif.

Mary Lou was pre-deceased by her husband, Virgil; her daughters, Betty Thornton and Sharon Gustafson; son-in-law, Carl Gustafson; and her grandson-in-law, Dane’ London.

Mary Lou was a dedicated wife and mother who was always there for her family.  Virgil and Mary Lou lived most of their lives in Brooklyn, Wis., then in Stoughton, Wis., and her final days in Oregon, Wis.  

Mary Lou was a terrific cook and welcomed her kids home after school nearly always with fresh-baked goods.  She dedicated her life to raising five kids, volunteering for Independent Living (honored for 500 hours of service), and being a member of support groups for the Brooklyn Fire Department, Brooklyn Booster Club, American Legion Auxiliary and the Brooklyn Labor Day Celebration, among others.

During their 77 years of marriage, Mary Lou and Virgil enjoyed trips to Florida, Branson, Mo., and of course, Ho Chunk Casinos in Wisconsin Dells and Madison.
