Obituary
MADISON - Linda Makholm, age 67, of Madison, Wis., passed away on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021.
She worked for over 25 years in the field of Cystic Fibrosis diagnosis, treatment and research. A resilient mama bear with deep love for her family, Linda walked with steadfast tenaciousness through some terrifying times in her life. She experienced God as a still, small voice, especially present when she was outdoors.
Linda was determined to stay alive to see her second grandson be born- 239 days after she found out he was coming. She passed 11 days later. She was able to access profound empathy for others and for animals. She leaned towards the marginalized and resonated with work towards social justice. Her happy places were the Wisconsin Northwoods and White Sand Lake. She was very loved.
Linda is survived by her children, grandchildren and siblings: Lisa Zawadsky and Ahvee; John Daniel and Dana Zawadsky and John Wilder; Martha and Mark Makholm. Preceding her in death were her parents and her brother: Mark and Phylis (Shoger) Makholm and Eric Makholm.

Linda and I were "partners in crime" at UW for 25 years. On a daily basis we shared laughs and tears, discussed the ups and downs of our kids and were able to find amusement in our day to day work at UW. She is what kept me sane during all those years and I believe I did the same for her. I will miss her dearly.

The obituary is great tribute to Linda’s life. For many years I volunteered with Linda on Saturdays at MOMS. She had a special way of making every client feel welcome. Those of us who worked regularly on Saturdays can attest to the great teamwork and fun that was inspired by Linda. May her gentle spirit live on in her grandchildren.
