Greg E. Altenberger

MARSHALL - Greg E. Altenberger, age 67, of Marshall, Wis., passed away on Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, at St. Mary’s Hospital, surrounded by his wife and children. He was born on Feb. 14, 1954, in Madison, the son of Harold G. and Joan M. (Bartosch) Altenberger. Greg grew up in Monona, Wis., and graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1972. He married his high school sweetheart, Cynthia M Schwartz, on Sept. 6, 1975. They celebrated their 50th anniversary of their first date on Nov. 16, 2021. Greg worked as a welder and sheet metal worker and enjoyed retirement for six years. He enjoyed playing cards including 500, Pinochle, Rummy Royal, and Cribbage, fishing in Northern Wisconsin, hunting with his children and family, riding his Harley, spending time in his workshop, attending concerts with his brothers, listening to Big Hair music, neighborhood garage gatherings, Fourth of July lakeside celebrations with extended family, he and his brothers endlessly harassing their little sister, watching the Packers and Badgers, falling asleep during movies, and playing Yahtzee and doing jigsaw puzzles with his wife. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother whose favorite pastime was spending time with family and friends. Greg is survived by his wife, Cindy Altenberger; sons, Matthew (Holly) Altenberger and Scott (Michelle) Altenberger; daughter, Michelle (Luis) Acosta; nine grandchildren, Verity, Isla and Daxton Altenberger, Noah, Aubrey, and Savanna Altenberger, and Leandros, Royce and Kellis Acosta; brother, Harold Altenberger; sister, Leah (Mike) Martin; nephews and nieces; and many other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Joan Altenberger; and his little brother, Steven Altenberger. Services will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison, at 12 noon on Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021. Burial will be held at Roselawn Memorial Park.
