Obituary

MIDDLETON -Dennis J. Kath, age 7 1, of Middleton, passed away on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at SSM Health-St. Mary's Hospital. He was born on April 15, 1954, in Madison, Wis., the son of LaVern and Ruth (Reed) Kath.

Dennis graduated from Middleton High School and lived in the Madison, Wis., area his entire life. After high school, Dennis went to work for his parents at the Hi-Way Dry Cleaners in Middleton, Wis. After realizing he did not want to take over his parents’ business, he went on to work for Menards and Walgreens. After retirement, he found his dream jobs. He worked for Best Western, driving patients to the UW Hospital and fans to sporting events. He also worked for the Hilton driving the pilots and flight attendants to the airport. He loved these crews, and we thank them for the joy they brought to his life.

Dennis always enjoyed a round of golf, camping at Smokey Hollow, and a good lunch on Friday at Peg and Doc’s with his friends. There was not a more loyal Dallas Cowboys fan than Dennis. Dennis also loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Dennis is survived by his children, Melissa Kath and Reed (Marsha) Kath; step-children, Janelle (Chris) Ruhland, Erik (Andrea) Jones and Ehren (Sara) Maly; grandchildren, Kya, LaKia, Trinity, Reed Junior, Isabelle, Oliver, Adelynn, Ingrid, Lincoln, Yorick and Tanner; great-grandchildren, Ezra and Helga; sisters, Linda (John) Wilder and Nancy (Mike) Riesch-Flannery; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy; daughter, Michelle; parents, LaVern and Ruth; and wife, Jayne.

Dennis's wishes were to be cremated with no public service. The family will gather at a later date to remember and celebrate his life.

Thank you to all who visited, called and sent cards to him. The family really appreciates the love that you have shown to all of us. We would also like to thank the hospice team at St. Mary's for their care and compassion during this difficult time. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

OMG - I am so sorry to hear about Dennis. I had no clue he was ill. We were great friends at Crystal Lake Campgrounds and after they moved to Smokey Hollow, we stayed in touch and got together a few times with him and Jayne. But life gets busy and our phone calls and get togethers became less and less. Jayne passed away. My husband passed away. He made some life changes but I thought of him often and planned to call him - but it didn't happen. And now I regret that so much. We have wonderful fond memories of Dennis and Jayne and now they are together again. Our very deepest sympathy to his family. Holidays are an especially hard time to lose someone and we will keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Please let us know when you have a celebration for him - we would love to come. To Dennis - I hope you and Jayne are having fun riding around in a golf cart and spending time together. You both will be in our memories forever.
