MADISON - Cynthia Marie "Cindy" Sellnow of Madison, Wis., fell asleep in Jesus on Sunday, Nov. 14, 2021, at the age of 64. Cindy was born Aug. 1, 1957, in Rapid City, S.D., to Rev. Donald and Ruth (Ebert) Sellnow. She was born again of water and the Spirit in Holy Baptism on Aug. 11, 1957, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She would later be confirmed in the truths of the Christian faith at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Watertown, Wis., on April 4, 1971. Cindy remained active in her life of faith as a member at Wisconsin Lutheran Chapel and later Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, both in Madison, Wis. Cindy's faith in Jesus her Savior brought her great peace in life and comfort in the face of difficulty and death. Cindy was a 1975 graduate of Northwestern Preparatory School in Watertown. She briefly attended Dr. Martin Luther College in New Ulm, Minn., and later received a degree from Madison Area Technical College. Cindy worked for the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction for many years. An animal lover, Cindy also volunteered for over a decade with the Dane County Humane Society. Cindy enjoyed playing piano and listening to music. She loved spending time with her family. She was kind and generous to the people in her life. Cindy was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her siblings, Rachel Sellnow of Lowell, Wis., David (Ellen) Sellnow of New Ulm, Minn., Elizabeth (David) Saskowski of Franksville, Wis., and Mark (Julie) Sellnow of Plover, Wis. She is also survived by beloved nieces and nephews, Jasper (Sarah) Sellnow, Griffith Sellnow, Hannah Sellnow, Rhyomi Sellnow, Silas Sellnow, Kyrie Sellnow, and Benjamin Sellnow. She is further survived by extended family including cousins and grand nieces and nephews. A Christian funeral will be held at OUR REDEEMER LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1701 McKenna Blvd., Madison, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, 2021. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Cindy's name to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Agrace HospiceCare or the Dane County Humane Society. Cindy's family would like to thank those who offered her care and kindness from Tender Reflections Assisted Living, Meriter Hospital, and Agrace HospiceCare. They also extend their thanks to the pastors of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Philip Moldenhauer and Ryan Cortright, for their encouragement and spiritual care for Cindy over the years and especially as her life on earth drew to a close. So says the Lord Jesus Christ: “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die." Cindy I felt blessed to have called you a friend and fellow woman of faith, you had a special perspective on life and what it means to be a follower of God. I will never forget the impact you made on my life with all the shared prayers and hymns enjoyed together. I have peace knowing you are resting with our heavenly father and are without pain. I will miss you very much!

Cindy was the World’s Best Aunt ; Cindy adored Griff and Jasper, she hung on their every word, and delighted in their presence. Cindy cared deeply for all sentient beings, but especially the most vulnerable including abandoned animals. Cindy was quite possibly the kindest person I have ever known; she had a pure heart and was free of harsh judgement of others. Cindy was not a Christian In Name Only, rather, she was Christ-like in her words, actions and the way she lived her life. Cindy, I salute you!

I’m really late in observing Cindy’s passing, but I do remember her fondly as she babysat me and my siblings in the early 70’s back in Watertown. I’m so glad she valued her faith in our Savior Jesus Christ. I wish more people did.
