OREGON - Joan Anita Janssen, age 91, of Oregon, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Agrace Hospice Care. She was born on October 27, 1933, in Sheboygan, Wis., the daughter of Alois and Leona (Krier) Mueller.
Joan graduated from Random Lake High School in 1951. She went on to earn her bachelor’s degree in nursing at Alverno College. She married Ronald Janssen on August 18, 1956, at St. Mary’s Church in Random Lake, Wis., and enjoyed 68 years of marriage. Joan worked as a registered nurse at University Hospital Madison, St. Mary’s Hospital, Badger Prairie Health Care, and Meriter Hospital for 40 years, retiring in 1996.
Joan was truly a friend to everyone she met. Whether you knew her for a lifetime or just a moment, she had a way of making you feel welcome, seen, and valued. Her caring nature wasn’t just something she expressed - it was who she was. She had a heart big enough to hold not only her family and friends but also everyone who crossed her path.
Joan lived her life with a sense of adventure and joy. She loved the water - swimming and water aerobics were some of her favorite activities. She brought that same energy to gardening, biking, snow skiing, and water skiing. She found happiness in movement, in the outdoors, and in embracing every season of life.
Travel was another passion that kept her spirit young and curious. She enjoyed exploring new places, but no matter how far she traveled, her heart always returned to her cherished cabin in Keshena. It was there that she and Ron created countless memories - peaceful morning walks, lively gatherings, and quiet moments of reflection surrounded by the beauty she loved so much.
Above all, Joan found her greatest joy in the people she loved. Time spent with Ron, family, and friends was her greatest treasure. Nothing brought her more happiness than being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Joan is survived by her children, Dave Janssen, Jacki (Mike) Watzke, Doug (Kendra) Janssen and Sue (Joe) Baumann; her grandchildren, Corey (Kourtney) Janssen, Austin Janssen, Alex (Stephanie) Watzke, Taylor Watzke, Angella (Steve) Jessup, Ariana Janssen, Alyssa Janssen, Jessica (Jordan) Rutherford, Danny (Kayla) Baumann and Drew (Kaley) Baumann; and her great-grandchildren, Tyler and Blake Jessup, Charlotte Janssen, Liam Baumann and Callen Rutherford. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Audrey Mueller, Carol Mueller, and Lynn Janssen.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Ron Janssen; her parents, Leona and Alois Mueller; and her brothers, Harold (Joyce), Earl and Alan Mueller.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at HOLY MOTHER OF CONSOLATION CATHOLIC CHURCH, 651 N Main St., Oregon, at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 5, 2025, with Father Randy Budnar presiding. Burial will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
