Sweet Miss Alice, I spent a day with her when she came to Paducah Quilt Show several years back, Ms Broadbent and another lovely friend and I had a great time that I will never forget, when we went everywhere and did everything I could think of doing with them as a guest to Paducah. I laughed with those three gals more than I had laughed in a month of Sundays. I even drove back to Days Inn the next morning before thet left and cried waving goodbye to the three of them as they were pulling out of the parking lot, we seemed to have made good friends that quickly. I am just so very sorry she passed at such a young age, but what a full life she led! She would have been a very special dear friend to everyone who was lucky enough or lived close enough to spend time with her. I am so sorry for her life partner, and all the family though I didnt have the pleasure of knowing any of them, except thru what she relayed in texts and pics, but her family and friends meant the world to her. Please know she will be missed by Penny jn Paducah, and my prayers will be with all of you. Her smile will always twinkle in my memory.

Memories of and with Alice could go on and on and on. Alice graduated from high school with my twin sisters. Later that year they became apartment roomies in Madison. Early in 1969, while recuperating from injuries suffered in an automobile accident, I crashed at their apartment for a few days. One night I enjoyed a sublime Chef Boy R Dee spaghetti dinner so carefully prepared by Alice. Forward many years and I spent almost every Friday night at the Bullpen for their fish fry and also many a Sunday enjoying a $3 "This is how you get it" breakfast prepared by Dan and the included best Bloody Mary in the world prepared by Alice. How could I end up spending $50 there? Usually by playing cards with the cardshark Alice and getting on one of her many sports pools. Memories of trips to Arlington Horsetrack and betting on the last horse to take a dump on the track prior to the race. Winter "Camping" trips to the Dells, staying in a fine motel and side trips to Zap's Tap and the Dog track. After Dan's death and Alice marrying Tom there is a memory of having them join Teri & I in Gatlainburg, TN for a couple of days prior to Alice and Tom going to the quilt convention in Paducah, KY. We took one side trip around Gatlainburg where I just happened to take a shortcut which saved us 30 miles but took an extra 30 minutes plus. Teri, Tom and Alice were not impressed at all. During some vacations we had Alice stop by the house on her way home from Home Care to feed our 2 cats. Of course she would take no pay and we knew she had a penchant to dabble in some quilt making, so we decided to pick up some local materials from wherever we were, like some southern based from New Orleans. I had trouble picking colors and patterns that went together, so she suggested I check out the fat quarters. I told her I did not think I could go into a fabric store and ask the lady, Where do you hide your fat quarters ? Another time in Old Town Denver I got separated from our group and they found me later sitting on the floor in the fabric shop sorting through fat quarters to take back to Alice. We surely had some great times together and a lot of laughs. She will be truly missed. RIP Alice !
