MADISON - Mary Ingrid House Hadley Nankivil, age 88, of Madison, Wis., passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Friday, Oct. 15, 2021.
Mary was born on June 23, 1933, in Lincoln, Ill. She married David W. Hadley in 1955 after graduating from the University of Illinois. She later earned her master’s degrees in education and counseling from Purdue University and the University of Wisconsin. Mary spent most of her professional career as a school counselor at Waunakee High School. She served in leadership roles in her local churches and other organizations.
Mary had an abiding faith in Jesus and loved people. She was a good listener and made lasting friendships in every phase of her life. She was a devoted caregiver for both of her husbands at the end of their lives. Widowed in 1987, she married Gilbert A. Nankivil in 1989, who predeceased her on May 28, 2021.
She spent many happy retirement years with Gil traveling in their RV. Mary’s favorite things included her family, reading, playing bridge, church ministries, singing, and the P.E.O. Sisterhood.
Mary is survived by her three children, Catherine Hadley Mackey (James), Timothy Hadley (Pamela) and Matthew Hadley (Janet); six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; as well as the extended Nankivil family.
Services will be held at ASBURY UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 6101 University Avenue, Middleton, at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, 2021. Visitation will be held at the church from 2 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday. Per county mandate, masks will be required.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Mary’s name. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.
