Lydie Sylva Oudova
March 28, 1936 - October 26, 2021
Obituary
Lodi - Dr. Lydie S. Oudova, known to those who loved her as Sylva, age 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, surrounded by family at home.
She was born on March 28, 1936, in Brno, Czech Republic, the daughter of the late Dr. Bohumil and Dr. Lydie (Filipiova) Krajnik and just recently emigrated to Lodi to be with her daughter.
Sylva earned her Doctorate degree at Charles University and practiced medicine, specializing in Child Neurology for 37 years.
Sylva enjoyed being very active - skiing in the mountains, swimming in the ocean, sewing, and playing chess with friends and family. She was a great admirer and collector of art, culture, and books. She loved everything outdoors including walking in the woods looking for mushrooms and building bonfires for late night star gazing. She loved getting together regularly with old colleagues, friends, and family. She traveled yearly to visit her son and his family in Sweden and daughter and her family in the United States. She had a special love of going to the Casino and went as much as she could. Her life was shaped greatly by WWII, and it was during that time that she developed a love and admiration for the allied forces - specifically American military - that liberated the city and country that she was born in and loved. That admiration extended throughout her life and included police officers in the United States. She proudly collected and displayed military and police challenge coins that were given to her from those who served. She was fiercely loyal and loving - and those that knew her were blessed and honored to be part of her circle of friends. Her quick wit, sarcasm, smile and laughter were infectious and will always be remembered and greatly missed.
Sylva is survived by her children, Jarmila (Edward) Meier and Pavel (Biljana) Ouda; seven grandchildren, Karolina (Chris) Paulson, Jana Nelson, Martin Ouda, and John Maret-Ouda, Jon (BethAnn) Meier, Ben (Megan) Meier, Joe Meier; great-grandchildren, Misha and Kai Paulson, Autumn (Erick) Ayers, Derek Paulson, Lucas Ouda, Olivia Miller, Gretchen and Bronwyn Meier, Evelyn and Sylvia Meier; Caden, Max, Jack, Sawyer Meier and other relatives and friends.
A private family gathering will be held.
