Obituary
FITCHBURG, WI - David P. “Dave” Schulte passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Oct. 24, 2021. He was born to Lawrence and Virgiline Schulte in Great Lakes, IL., on July 4, 1955. Dave was born into a military family and lived in several states and Germany prior to moving to Madison in 1968. He graduated from West High School in 1973 and went on to study at MATC. Dave worked in the grocery industry for 47 years. He also served as a volunteer firefighter for the Fitchburg Fire Department. He enjoyed watching movies, sports, collecting comic books, fishing, camping, and most of all spending time with his family. With his naturally happy disposition, his booming voice and infectious laugh anyone in his company couldn’t help but have lifted spirits instantly. Everyone cherished Dave’s kind and gentle nature along with his outgoing personality. He is leaving behind many wonderful friends. He truly had a heart bigger than life and was the most loving husband, father and Gumpa. He will be forever missed.
He was preceded in death and welcomed into heaven by his parents and brother, Mark.
He is survived by the love of his life, wife of 43 years, Maryon Schulte; daughter, Jana (Shawn Bleimehl) Price of Washington DC; son, Christian (Sarah) Schulte of Florence, KY; son, Adam (Emily Root) Schulte of Fitchburg; brother, Gregory (Kelli Hoppmann) Schulte of Madison; sisters-in-law, Sue Schulte of Madison, WI and Carol Fischer of Oregon, WI; brothers-in-law, Bill (Patti Polich) Vultaggio of Oregon and Mike (Diane) Vultaggio of Oregon; along with five grandchildren, Colin and Jillian Schulte and Allison, Leah and Sylvia Bleimehl, and many other family members and friends.
A private Mass and celebration of Dave’s life will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the ALS Association (https://donate.als.org/fundraiser/3560640) in memory of David’s father would be appreciated by the family. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

When we lived next to Dave and Maryon, we were always amazed that he would start mowing the lawn just before dark and continue on for awhile after that. Shortly after Dave and Maryon repainted their house, Bill set off a firework which headed straight to the front of their house and left a big black mark on their new paint. We thought he would be very angry, but as usual, he just laughed. Dave was one of the happiest people I ever met. He was never in a bad mood and always had something fun to share with you. I had to move in December 2010 shortly after Bill passed so we lost touch. But the wonderful memories will always be there. My prayers go out to your family and friends. Dave will be missed a lot.
