Obituary
VERONA - Hild (Thoresen) Petre, age 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Oct. 24, 2021.
Born in northern Norway, Hild began a new life when she met a Polish American rogue named Gilbert Petre. He convinced her to leave Norway behind and to live an adventure with him, first in Peru, where they were married, and then in Wisconsin, where they settled. Together, they raised four daughters.
Hild is survived by those daughters, Cindy Petre, Donna Kahler, Kari Petre and Britt (Kyle) Kloehn. She is also survived by her former son-in-law, David Lyshek; and her four much-loved grandchildren, Tony Kass, Espen Lyshek, Kaelen Kloehn and Trevor Kloehn. The Norwegian word for grandmother is bestemor, and to them, she was "Best."
She will be missed dearly by all of her many friends and family members, both in Norway and Wisconsin. Her friends, cousins, nieces and nephews in Norway will always remember her generous and loving spirit. Her knitting group, her Share and Care friends, and her fellow Vikings at the Sons of Norway will forever hold her in their hearts.
A memorial service will be held for Hild at Olbrich Gardens in Madison, on July 24, 2022.

We knew Hild when our mother was at Oakwood. Hild was a wonderful caregiver, so kind to everyone. It was always so nice to see her smiling face. Our sympathy to her family. Eileen and Betsy Dunne

My sincere condolences for your loss, Cindy, Donna, Kari and Britt! Also her four much loved grandchildren she talked about so much. She truly was the "Best" in their hearts. We at Sons of Norway will miss her so much. I love this photo of Hild when younger....easy to see that it's her in that smile. I have some socks she knitted and will always remember her, especially on Oct. 15, also the birthday of a brother who passed long ago. They are always in our hearts. She lives on through you all. I met your mother when I moved to Madison about 10 years ago and joined the Sons of Norway. I shopped at her kitchen store at the Green Bay mall before I moved here. I didn't know it was she who ran the store then; but I loved the store. I loved volunteering with her at SON. She was so wonderful and I remember her telling us that her mother made a "sunshine cake". My sympathies go to your family. She loved her grandchildren. She is with the angels. She will not be forgotten.

I met Hild at the Badger Prairie Needs Network when she and I volunteered together. Just listening to her speak was delightful, it was like she was singing everytime she said anything. We talked about Norwegian cooking, and she baked me krumkakas at Christmas. I tried to make them and even bought a new grill, but that didn't work so I gave her my krumkaka grill that she said she would give to one of the "kids." I learned that cardamon was the second (or third) highest spice and was used to make krumkakas, so I bought her a big bottle of it (I'm sure my getting more was my incentive.) She would knit socks and caps for families and donate them to the pantry. She was so efficient and simply delightful. My condolences to you, her family, and loved ones. She will be truly missed!

I worked with your mom at Oakwood when I first graduated high school (2008-2014). She really instilled in me a sense of care that sticks with me in my nursing journey to this day. I had been thinking about her recently and am so sad to have found her obituary. My sincere condolences on your loss.
