Richard Onsrud

STOUGHTON - Richard Arthur “Dick” Onsrud, age 95, of Stoughton, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 24, 2021, after a brief stay at Alden Estates. He was born on March 4, 1926, in Stoughton, the son of Arthur and Gladys (Halverson) Onsrud. Richard graduated from Stoughton High School in 1944, where he was crowned prom king and was the captain of the football team, which earned him the nickname of “Iron Man.” After graduation, he left Stoughton and served his country during World War II in the U.S Navy, traveling the Pacific and the coast of China. Dick married Marian Anderson on March 8, 1947, and they celebrated 63 wonderful years together. In 1951, the family moved near the Onsrud Marsh on Lake Kegonsa Road, where Richard and Marian lived out their lives. Richard provided a comfortable middle-class lifestyle for his family while working as a proud Union carpenter. Dick was never without work due to his reputation of being a reliable, hard worker. Dick was a kind man and a friend to everyone. He enjoyed playing cards with their neighborhood card club. Dick loved all sports, especially the Packers, Badgers and Brewers. Thrifting, attending flea markets, and playing slot machines with Marian were some of their favorite activities. Richard is survived by his daughter, Susan (Jim) Krause; three sons, Roger Onsrud, Gary Onsrud and Jeffrey (Mari Mullen) Onsrud; grandchildren, Josh (Silvina Weimueller) Krause, Amanda Krause, Peter Coberly and Michael Onsrud; and great-grandchild, Nicolas Krause. Dick is now reunited with the love of his life, his wife, Marian Onsrud; son, Jon Onsrud; parents; brother, Donald (Jean) Onsrud; and two sisters, Joanne White and Betty (George) Brown.​ A private family service will be held. Memorials may be made to Wisconsin Wetlands Association in Dick’s memory.
