Lawrence Rudolph "Butch" Werner

FITCHBURG - Lawrence “Butch” R. Werner, age 72, of Fitchburg, joined his sweetheart, Jacqueline, in heaven, on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2021, at UW Hospital. He was born on Aug. 3, 1949, in Marshfield, the son of Rudolph and Florence (Stini) Werner. Lawrence graduated from Columbus Catholic High School in Marshfield, Wis., in 1968. He married Jacqueline Dahlke on Oct. 2, 1976, in Manitowish Waters. Butch worked as a supervisor at the local ice rink and as a manager of the bakery department at Karau’s IGA. He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus and was proud to be Knight of the Year in 2004. Butch was his grandchildren’s number one fan at their sporting events, never missing a game. He loved camping with his family at state parks, riding his motorcycle which included taking trips to the Canadian Rockies. Butch was very handy and enjoyed DIY home improvements. He was selfless and always willing to help his neighbors with their yard maintenance. Lawrence is survived by his children, Theresa Werner, Luke (Maggie) Werner and Mark (Lora) Werner; brother, Gordon Werner; sisters, Monica (Todd) Rufledt and Dorothy (Dave) Leonard; grandchildren, Brayden, Tallyn, and Katelyn; step-granddaughter, Courtney Laurent; step-great grandchildren, Aydon and Avry Laurent; in-laws, Janice and Jerome Dahlke; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jacqueline Werner; and nephew, Adam Leonard. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021. Burial will be held at Oak Hall Cemetery in Fitchburg. A visitation will be held at GUNDERSON FITCHBURG FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 2950 Chapel Valley Road, Fitchburg from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 25, 2021, and also at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday.
