Obituary

LODI - Kathryn L. Phelan, age 60, passed away on Tuesday, October 19, 2021. Kathy was born on Nov. 29, 1960, the daughter of Phillip and Mary (Fleming) Phelan. Kathy graduated from Queen of Apostles High School in Madison. Kathy worked for KinderCare as a lead teacher in the infant room. She spent most of her life working with children weather it was with the special needs children or working in different daycare centers. She truly loved working with all children. She loved watching them grow and seeing the joy in their eyes when they learned something new. Kathy had a variety of hobbies and interests including camping (sitting next to the fire with family), crocheting, reading, gardening, watching the Chicago series, and watching Christmas movies, but enjoyed spending time with her family most of all. Her granddaughter was her whole world. If Kathy was having a bad day, she would just give Lilly a hug or just listen to her and her day became a lot better. Kathy kicked cancer’s butt on Nov. 25, 2015. She told her daughter that she didn’t think she was going to make it through all of it, but she came out of it like a champ. Kathy kept fighting from that day on to make sure she could be there for everyone that needed her. She is survived by her children, Amanda (Matthew) Kleinfeldt and Paul M. Oliversen; her granddaughter, Lilliana Kleinfeldt; her brother, Michael (Diane) Phelan; her ex-husband, Paul R. Oliversen; and other family members and lots of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Private family burial will be held at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. A private celebration of Kathryn's life will be held at PRAIRIE VALLEY CHRISTIAN CENTER, 923 Development Drive, Lodi, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021, with Pastor Chris Wilson presiding. Live streaming of the celebration will be available at facebook.com/prairievalleychristiancenter. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com. Kathy was one of the sweetest people I knew. She was strong in bringing joy, not just to her family, but every little life she touched. She had a caring, patient attitude that made for the perfect grandmother. I will remember all the times that I was privileged enough to see her with her family and her granddaughter. She was a special lady who always found the strength to get up and get done what needed to get done, even when she was tired after working a long day at the daycare. She was part of my family, but she was also a friend. I will always remember her holding Lilly, so lovingly. The joy on her face was priceless! Love and blessings.

We've only known Kathy since January, when our daughter started attending kindercare, but what an impact she had on our lives. She was so sweet, patient, experienced, caring, and doted on all the little ones. Our daughter always went so happily and willingly into Kathy's care, with not a tear shed when I'd leave. She loved her. We loved her. I can imagine a lot more people loved her. She will be so greatly missed. Hugs to all of the family, you're in our thoughts and prayers.
