Obituary
MIDDLETON - Michael L. Jiru, age 68, passed away peacefully at home with his wife, Maggie, at his side on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021. He died from esophageal cancer two months after his diagnosis.
Mike married the love of his life, Margaret “Maggie” Winkler on May 17, 2003. His only regret in life, according to him, was that they didn't have enough time together.
He was a life-long Madisonian and very proud of his time at Edgewood High School (and the stories he could tell)! He took great pride in his home and lawn, making sure it was the greenest in the neighborhood (thank you, Bill!). Golf was a passion of his which he and Maggie enjoyed together and planned vacations around. Much time was spent playing at "Odana National" where Mike never met a stranger! He could be spotted (or heard!) greeting everyone in his red cart, often asking others to join his group. Mike was in lending for over 30 years and was an active member of RASCW (Realtors Association of South Central Wisconsin), chairing the social/networking committee during that time. Too many accolades to mention!
Mike's wonderful smile and sense of humor will be missed by all who knew him. His laugh was contagious!
Mike is survived by his wife, Maggie; dog, Ollie; son, Josh; grandson, Vincent; brother, Dave; sisters, Sue (Joe) Cooper and Judy Armstrong; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary (Matts) and David Jiru; and his niece, Jenny Cooper.
A celebration of life will be held at ODANA HILLS GOLF COURSE CLUB HOUSE, 4635 Odana Road, Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 13, 2021.

I am saddened to hear of Mike's passing. We had a lot of good times on the RASCW membership and networking committee over the years. Mike was an inspiration in how he handled himself personally and professionally.

Oh, Mike, we just saw you at the EHS reunion in August, cheery and fine looking, with a memory of St Bernard's to share. The world is very definitely an emptier place now, but we pray that your family is comforted in their memories, and that you are smiling down on them from above. May God bless your family and all those whose lives were touched by your pleasant nature and friendliness.

I had not seen Mike since the early 1980's playing racquetball with him. I remember him as a very good guy and reading his obit, many loved him. RIP Mike!
