Herbert Robert Waraczynski

MONONA - Herbert R. "Herb" Waraczynski, age 95, of Monona, passed away on Monday, Oct. 18, 2021. He was born on Aug. 26, 1926, in Milwaukee, the son of Leo and Julia Waraczynski. At age 17, Herb joined the U.S. Navy Air Corps to train as an aviation pilot and then graduated as valedictorian from South Division High School in 1944. The Navy sent him to Mount Pleasant, Michigan, and Ames, Iowa for school. He received his commission as a Naval Officer Ensign and a degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State. He took further course work in business at Marquette University before working for Westinghouse Electric Supply Company. He then worked for the city of Jefferson as manager of the Electric and Water Department before retiring. On May 12, 1951, he married Betty Ann Ostlund, sharing 30 years with her before her passing. Herb is survived by his three children, Kathleen (Dan) Roarty, Dr. Susan (Dr. Bharat Pathakjee) Waraczynski and Robert (Elaine) Waraczynski; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Ann; sister, Claudia Bluhm; and parents, Leo and Julia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Monona, at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, with Father Chad Droessler presiding.
