STOUGHTON - Thomas “Tom” Castree, age 82, of Stoughton, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2021, at Agrace HospiceCare. He was born on Aug. 15, 1939, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Sam and Margaret (Sacco) Castree.
Tom attended Rockford East High School. He married Patricia "Pat" Miller on Feb. 22, 1972, in Rockford, Ill. He worked many years as a butcher for Logli Grocery Store before retiring in 2001.
Tom’s family meant the world to him, and he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Tom also loved trap shooting at Hope Rod & Gun Club, boating and waterskiing on Lake Kegonsa and the Rock River, and spending time with his neighbors on Sunnyside Street. His family would like to thank his neighbors for all their help, especially Sally and Julie.
Tom is survived by his wife, Pat; sons, Sam (Dorianne) Castree and Thomas (Carrie) Castree; daughter, Lori McClanahan; sister, Dorothy Angileri; grandson, Brady Castree; five granddaughters, Jennifer Monachello, Kylee (Jeff) Gerber, Giada Castree, Nikki (Matt) Bilodeau and Brittney (Branden) Whitlow; four great-grandchildren, Aidan Clark, Bodi Gerber, Madison Bilodeau and Braxton Whitlow; and his dog Buddy. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials in his name may be made to Agrace HospiceCare. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Tom and I spent many years growing up in south Rockford just around the corner from each other. Just a couple of years ago I contacted Tom and we had lunch and talked about old times. I'm sorry to hear of his passing and wish the family peace and cherished memories. Richard Cole

I remember playing basketball at Saint Rita and Uncle Tom was the coach. He use to always say settle down you foul someone every time out there, one game I got a steal and went the wrong way for a layup I thought I was going to get an ear full but Uncle Tom just said good hustle out there with his unforgettable laugh. Will always remember how wonderful you were to everyone and always willing to help us kids. Love you always Sam Angileri

Dear Pat, Tommy, Sam, Lori, and Dottie, and everyone else that loved Tom.Words can’t really express how sad we are feeling. Tom was my brother from another mother, and I am going to miss that guy. We’ve been friends since we met in Music Appreciation class at East High in 1957. Right from the start Tom was a lot of fun, and always made me laugh. He continued doing that all his life. He would give you the shirt off his back, and always made Rich and I feel at home when we came to the lake. I can still hear him laughing, and that memory will stay with me forever. Hopefully, it can bring you some peace to know what a great guy his was.
