Obituary

Madison - Evelyn M. Gerry, age 98, of Madison, passed away on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at Brookdale Stonefield. She was born on June 15, 1927, in Madison, Wis., the daughter of Morris and Hattie (Rude) Martinson.

Evelyn met her future husband, Thomas, way back in high school at Madison East. They were united in marriage on April 17, 1948, and together they raised their three children, Linda, Debra and Mark.

Evelyn worked as a bank teller, secretary, and accountant for Bank of Madison, IDS Investments and Tiffany’s Bridal Fashions respectively - jobs that she took very seriously and performed punctually and thoroughly. She also volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader, as well as pursuing gardening and cooking. Her floral arrangements won awards at the Madison Glad Show. Evelyn loved collecting cookbooks and for years, she hosted and cooked for huge holiday gatherings of friends and family. She was also a collector of village pieces, which now have new homes amongst the rest of her family. Evelyn enjoyed traveling, taking trips across the United States, Europe, and China.

Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Linda (Steve) Bartlett and Debra (Ward) Dieter; daughter-in-law, Lori Gerry; grandchildren, Michael (Molly) Tiffany, Holli (Michael) Struck, Craig (Abby) Bartlett, Bryan (Becca) Gerry, Ian (Daccia) Gerry, Lindsey (Dana) Bushart and Elaine (Larry) Seiple; and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas; son, Mark Gerry; brothers, Lloyd (Florence) Martinson and Raymond (Harriett) Martinson; and sister, Helen Jerred.

I was shocked to see that Evie Gerry just passed away @ the age of 98! She and I did so many things together with a Mendota Garden Club..She lived on Vahlen St way back when then moved into Brentwood in the circle by my still good friend Carol Rohde..I use to do alot with her driving her places and scrapbooks @ Bashford U Methodist Church. She moved over to Yellowstone drive and I would pick her up to attend events..Then she moved to Oakwood West...I had an Alzheimer's husband and had to spend alot of time with his care and list track of her..Her son and mine Mark and Rich played hockey for Lakers and East HIgh school and were on WI State championship in 1978..So many things our lives touched bases..Deepest Sympathy to the Gerry family and loved your Mom..Had no idea she just now passed..A wonderful, talented woman....Helen J Falch

My name is Mary Lu (Clark) Anderson. We lived right across the street on Vahlen when Debbie and Linda were little girls. I remember Evelyn and the whole family as being so kind and thoughtful - very good neighbors. At that time Vahlen was at the edge of the city - nothing beyond but cornfields and farms. We will be out of town on January 31st, but I will be thinking of you, Linda and Debbie and all the family. My mom lived to be 97 years old and I know we're never quite ready to say good bye to our moms. Your sweet mom will always be part of who you are. Deepest Sympathy, Mary Lu

I was honored to work with Evelyn at Maiden's Voyage Bridal where she taught many of us small tricks of the trade. She was always so kind to us and when my kiddos were younger we visited in the early 2000s. We lost contact as my kids got older and we lived out of madison. I have thought of her often. Especially lately as I have a daughter getting married in 2027. Thank you Evelyn for the wonderful memories. 🥰
