Allen Fredrick Atwood

OREGON - Allen Fredrick Atwood, of Oregon, Wis., passed away at his home in the early hours of his 73rd birthday on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021. Allen was born on Sept. 30, 1948, to Arthur and Estelle in Milwaukee, Wis. He was a dedicated husband to Kathleen for over 45 years, proud father to Robert Allen Atwood of Door County (beloved and doting Grampy to Ethan, Evan, and Zoë), and proud father to Alyson Estelle (Atwood) Tincher and son-in-law, Nicholas Tincher of Verona (and beloved and doting Papa to Stella and Coco). He was a caring brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend to many and loved each of them deeply. To know Allen was to be touched by his incredible generosity and huge caring heart, and to understand his immense pride for his family. Allen was an honored veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, Army National Guard, and U.S. Navy. Allen was awarded a Purple Heart for his service in Vietnam in 1969. He had a deep pride for his country and his time serving it. Allen and Kathleen returned to Wisconsin from the Naval Base in Norfolk, Va., and settled in Kenosha County in 1979 where he was stationed at Great Lakes Naval Base. After his time in the Navy, he taught as a civilian there for many years. He was a small business owner in the 1990s/early 2000s and also spent many weekends, along with Kathleen, teaching ATV safety courses. He had a passion for his “toys” - cars, ATVs, snowmobiles, motorcycles, boats, campers - and he enjoyed sharing that love with others. Some of his favorite times were boating, motorcycling, and camping with friends and family. Road trips were always Allen’s preferred vacations and he enjoyed traveling all over the continental U.S. Allen and Kathleen moved to Oregon, Wis., in 2015 to be closer to family and he spent much of his time with his granddaughters - reading books, playing dominoes, and always winning at card games. This time of year was Allen’s favorite - he and Kathleen spent many weekends enjoying the fall colors. In his final months Allen was cared for by his extremely dedicated wife, and supported by his daughter and her family, which allowed him to remain at home. Allen was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Dale; sister, Eileen; and brother-in-law, Charles. Along with his wife and children, he is survived by his brother, Flynn (Shellie), his grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many other relatives. The family would like to thank the in-home Agrace HospiceCare team and Senior Helper staff for their loving care of Allen. No immediate service is being held; a celebration of life will be planned in the future.
