MADISON - Debra Lynn (Engelberger) Brown was born in Madison, Wis., on Jan. 1, 1955, and passed away on Friday, Feb. 11, 2022, at the age of 67. She attended St. Raphael’s Catholic Grade School and was a graduate of Madison West High School, class of 1974. She also attended Madison College. She worked for the University of Wisconsin-Madison for over 28 years before retiring.


Debbie is survived by her husband, Roger L. Brown; her stepsons, Tristan (Jessica) Brown of Austin, Texas, and Logan Brown of Portland, Ore.; sister, Marsha Coghlan of Naples, Fla.; niece, Cori (Troy) Shambaugh of Greenfield, Ind.; nephews, John (Jennifer) Coghlan of Carmel, Ind., and Todd (Holly) Coghlan of Lake Mary, Fla.; great-nephews, Conner Coghlan and Luke Shambaugh; and great-niece, Abby Shambaugh. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eldro and Virginia Engelberger; and her dearly loved brother-in-law, Dick Coghlan.

Debbie and I met early in high school and have been friends ever since. Thinking about it after I learned she was gone, I realized we are talking almost 50 years! So many memories with Debbie over the years between high school, young adults, being a roommate, taking a cruise together, and on. Her high school friend group will miss her terribly, but know she is no longer suffering. Prayers to both Debbie in heaven, and for Roger as he tries to figure out how to go forward. RIP my dear friend.
