FITCHBURG - John Walter Urben, age 88, passed away on Monday, Sept. 20,2021 at Beehive Home in Oregon, Wis. John was born on Jan. 6, 1933, in Massillon, Ohio to Walter and Anita (Wiedenbeck) Urben.
He was united in marriage to Patricia M. “Pat” Stephenson on Oct. 12, 1955, in Madison. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. After being discharged from the military, he went to work for Findorff Construction in Madison. He and Pat settled in Fitchburg where they raised their family. Prior to retirement, he also helped his wife, Pat, with their boarding kennel, Cherokee Kennels, established in 1960, which has since been taken over by family members following their retirement. In his free time, John enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, and spending time with family.
John is survived by his children, Marsha (Jim) Bathe of Cuba City, Mo., Terrie (Dave) Linden of Verona, and Rick (Judy) Urben of Fitchburg; grandchildren, Jennifer (Scott) Hodgson, Jeff (Katie) Linden, Dustin (Katy) Urben, Dillon Urben (Brooke Crossen), Aimee (Michael) Urben and Connor Urben; great-grandchildren, Olivia, Grant, Riley, Keaton and Evan Hodgson, Evita and Poppy Linden, Emersyn Urben and Halston Urben; brothers, Noel (Trish) Urben and David Urben. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Patricia; brother, Dean; and great-granddaughter, Ava Hodgson.
