MIDDLETON - Sara Helen Rounds, age 63, of Middleton, passed away from a battle with esophageal cancer on Friday, Sept. 10, 2021, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on Oct. 10, 1957, in Los Angeles, Calif., the daughter of Lawrence and Leone (Erickson) Kaylor. Sara was a graduate from Wauwatosa West High School with the class of 1975. Sara was united in marriage to Wayne Rounds Jr. on July 24, 1999.
Sara graduated from Truman College, earning her Associate Degree in Nursing in 1982. Her career began at the Swedish Covenant Hospital in Chicago, where she worked while earning her degree. After graduation she continued working there as an E.R. nurse. In 1989, she moved to Madison and began working at the Methodist Hospital in the E.R. Following the merger, Sara continued working at Meriter in the recovery room and in the Telemetry Unit, and finally as a recovery room nurse at the UW Outpatient Ambulatory Surgery Center. Throughout her career she served as a teacher, mentor and a role model for nursing students. Sara retired from her dedicated nursing career in 2014.
Sara was a master chef and enjoyed cooking. She was a talented seamstress and tailor, and made many beautiful creations. Sara loved spending time at her mother’s cottage in Three Lakes Wisconsin. She was a “True Domestic Engineer” - there was nothing she couldn't do on her own. She loved her pets and simply helping people brought her immense joy.
Sara enjoyed spending time with her husband Wayne on the farm, and adding her special touches to their farm house and having fun in the outdoors.
Sara is survived by her husband, Wayne Rounds Jr.; brother, Gordon (Diane) Kaylor; sister, Karen Malda; five nephews, Jacob (Traci) Malda, Jon (Mallory) Malda, Josh (Pam) Malda, Jason Malda and Jared (Lindsey) Malda; and two nieces, Elaine (Kent) Parker and Tamra (Christian) Lyons. She is further survived by other relatives and many loving friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother-in-law, John Malda.
In keeping with Sara’s wishes, a private service will be held. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established, UW Hospital Department of Human-Oncology or to Agrace HospiceCare. Online condolences may be made at www.gundersonfh.com.

Wayne and family, I am so sorry to hear of Sara’s passing. She was a wonderful person and a great nurse. I’ve known Sara for many years since we worked at Meriter Recovery room and at Madison Surgery Center. She was so kind to her patients and she had such a great sense of humor.
