Lora Jean Johnson

COTTAGE GROVE - Lora J. “Jean” Johnson, age 89, of Cottage Grove, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2021. She was born on Sept. 10, 1932, in Madison, the daughter of Kenneth and Charlotte (Hull) Good. Jean graduated from Madison East High School in 1950. She married John Johnson on August 4, 1951. Jean worked as a laboratory technician for American Breeders Service for 35 years, retiring in 1994. She was an active member of Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church her entire life and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 248 for many years. Jean’s life revolved around her family; they were her world. She enjoyed reading, embroidery and baking. At family gatherings and neighborhood events, her cookies and deserts came to be special “events” of the day. She loved birds (cardinals) and angels, and she collected figurines and pictures of both with a passion. Jean lived her entire life in the Cottage Grove area and in her later years loved to talk to her family and friends about the history of growing up and living in the area. She was proud of her heritage and roots in Cottage Grove. Jean is survived by her sons, Steven (Jean) Johnson and Scott (Marla Kay) Johnson; sister, Marlys Johnson; brother, Blake (LeAnn) Good; grandsons, Christopher (Cris) Johnson and Peter Johnson; granddaughter, Stephanie (Kjersten) Bakke; and great-grandchildren, Kaia and Ryker Bakke. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; parents; and brother-in-law, Douglas Johnson. A memorial service will be held at BRYN MAWR PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 229 N. Main St., Cottage Grove, at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3, 2021. A visitation will be held at the church from 1 p.m. until the time of the service on Sunday.
