James Owen Odland

WAUNAKEE - James Owen Odland, age 67, of Waunakee (Clintonville), passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 3, 2021. He was born on Aug. 4, 1954, in Stoughton, Wis., the son of Owen and L. Jean (Thompson) Odland. Jim grew up in the kid-friendly Midmoor/Schluter Beach Neighborhood in Monona. He proudly graduated from Monona Grove High School in 1972 and from Madison Area Technical College, with an associate degree in 1975. Jim began his career in supervision and manufacturing management in the heavy metal fabrication industry, retiring 38 years later in 2013. During this time, he met many friends that he was still close to today. Jim was a Corvette guy and was very proud of his yellow Corvette convertible he purchased after he retired. He enjoyed taking it for road trips with his grandson, Nate. He enjoyed auto racing. He attended many races with family and friends over the years. He also enjoyed deer and turkey hunting, snowmobiling, and boating on Lake Monona, near where he grew up. He especially cherished the time spent with his grandchildren. Jim is survived by his two sons, Matt (Michelle) Odland and Adam Odland; sister, Jean Relph; four grandchildren, Nathan Odland, Nyssa Odland, Annika Odland and Benjamin Odland; niece, Amy (Michael) Minter; and two great-nephews, Owen Minter and Mason Minter. Coming from a small family, Jim became very close to his eight cousins who also survive him, Karen, David, Greg, Julie, Tom, Gary, Sue, and Jack. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial gathering will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Drive, Madison from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2021.
